Teaching Yoga in Cartagena, Colombia

Teaching yoga and traveling to Cartagena was an exciting opportunity! I began my week-long yoga trip on a Sunday at a relaxing resort, with an enthusiastic entertainment team providing mats and towels for the daily morning yoga class. My accommodation for the week was Dreams Karibana Cartagena. This was my third Fitbodies trip. I've traveled to Jamaica and Curaçao and shared how I connected with Fitbodies in a prior blog post.

At Dreams Karibana Cartagena, I taught yoga from Monday through Saturday at 9:30 am, with each class lasting between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the weather and the energy levels of my guests. Currently, I am pursuing a yoga therapy certification and have been trained in slow-flow yoga, which I was excited to share with the resort's guests. The guests were very receptive and enjoyed practicing poolside with the scenery.

Despite one rainy morning that moved us indoors to the gym, the weather was typically sunny and hot. I frequently reminded students to stay hydrated and take breaks whenever necessary to ensure their comfort and safety during the sessions.

Language and Weather: Embracing Local Life in Cartagena

Learning about Cartagena's vibrant culture and rich history was engaging. While some resort staff spoke English, my basic Spanish skills were valuable in enhancing interactions and making deeper connections. My travel partner and I immersed ourselves in the resort activities by joining a bike tour and participating in an aqua Zumba class. We also visited the historic Walled City, where we enjoyed a salsa class, and took a day trip to Éteka beach club where I lounged all day by the beach.

Final Reflections on My Yoga Teaching Vacation in Cartagena

This trip was an experience that deepened my skills as an instructor. The small class sizes, which ranged from one to four individuals, allowed for personalized sessions where I could offer variations for each student. I am grateful for the experiences and memories created in Cartagena and look forward to my next travel destination.
